LIT 601 - Early Language and Literacy Instruction

3 cr.
This course provides an understanding of oral language acquisition and the role it plays in learning to read and write, as well as research-based strategies and activities for developing oral language, phonemic awareness, and early literacy skills. Students will demonstrate proficiency at analyzing oral language, reading and writing samples of young normally-developing and at-risk children. They will also demonstrate proficiency in developing curriculum-based lesson plans aimed at developing oral language, phonemic awareness skills and early literacy skills for these children. Includes field experience.
