The Philosophy program prepares students for critical thinking, ethical decision-making and philosophical reflection. Students taking Philosophy will be versed in a critical reading of the history of ideas. The study of Philosophy encourages the practice of socratic inquiry in order to better understand and shape our role in the world today as well as to articulate a path for leading meaningful and thoughtful lives.
The Philosophy major is a perfect preparation for graduate study in a variety of disciplines within the humanities. A minor in Philosophy is a complement to any major track of study, including business, communication, environmental studies, women’s studies, education, health care and law. With a degree in Philosophy, students are able to read and write complex theoretical ideas but in a way that is applicable and most relative to living a good life.
