The B.F.A. Degree

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree requires 60 credits in Liberal Studies and 60 credits in Professional Studies and studio electives.

B.F.A. Degree in Art Education or in Art Therapy

In addition to the B.S. degree in Art Education or in Art Therapy (see below), the Art Department also offers a B.F.A. degree in Art Education or in Art Therapy. In order to qualify for either of these, a student must complete a portfolio review, apply for admission into the B.F.A. program and develop her course of study in consultation with the faculty in Studio Art and with the faculty in either Art Therapy or Art Education. In addition to studio foundations, colloquia, and art history requirements described above, students completing this degree take studio electives and professional courses in either Art Education or Art Therapy.

B.F.A. Art Therapy majors fulfill their internship requirement through an Art Therapy internship. B.F.A. Art Education candidates complete this requirement through student teaching. A senior who has demonstrated outstanding competency may be chosen by the Art Department faculty to present a solo exhibition. (Please note: the B.F.A. degree programs in Art Education and Art Therapy require more than 120 credits.)
